How to Create a Mobile App: React Native vs No-Code vs Hiring a Developer

Build a mobile app for iOS and Android — compare no-code builders, React Native, Flutter, and hiring a mobile developer. Real costs, timelines, and what ships to the app store.

Every founder wants an app in the App Store. Few understand what it actually takes. Here are your real options in 2026 — honest pros, cons, and costs.

Option 1: No-code mobile builders

Tools like Adalo, Glide, and FlutterFlow let non-developers publish apps. Good for: simple content apps, directories, basic forms. Bad for: custom UI, offline mode, complex payments, app store rejection risks, and scale.

Option 2: React Native or Flutter (hire a developer)

One codebase → iOS + Android. React Native (JavaScript/TypeScript) is the standard for startups already using React on web. Flutter (Dart) is strong for custom UI. Both require a developer who has published to app stores before — certificates, builds, and review process trip up beginners constantly.

Option 3: Native (Swift + Kotlin)

Best performance, highest cost. Two codebases, two teams. Only worth it for graphics-heavy or platform-specific apps. Most startups should start with React Native.

Real mobile apps I have shipped

  • NAIJA GPT — AI football app on Google Play (React Native, OpenAI).
  • BetJuju — sports platform with iOS and Android launching (React Native, Next.js backend).
  • PayParrot — fintech with mobile-responsive web + native features.

Timeline and cost (realistic)

  • Simple app (auth + 5 screens + API): 6–10 weeks, $8k–$18k.
  • Medium app (payments + push + offline): 10–14 weeks, $15k–$30k.
  • No-code: faster start, rebuild likely within 12 months.
